1. i don't have a passport yet, what do i do?

The application may be turned in with no copy of your passport! If you are waiting to receive your passports from the authorities you may turn in the application letting us know when you will have it.

2. my employer is late with the IPA (Job Offer), what do i do?

You can turn in your application without the IPA (Independent Placement Agreement, former Job Offer Letter). However you must turn in the IPA as soon as possible.

3. what is the dead line for the applications?

The dead line differ according to the program you applied for. Dead lines are usually announced on the News page.

4. can i go in a state or city i choose?

Your preferences regarding the location where you would like to work must be mentioned in the application form. However we cannot guarantee that we will be able to fulfill your requests.

5. can i go with a friend?

You (and your friend) must mention who you want to be placed with in the application form. Although it is very likely that we will place you together we cannot offer any guarantees in this regard.

6. what happens if i don't like the job Ameritrex gave me?

if the job Ameritrex found for you matched one of the fields you mentioned in the application form than you must accept it or you will lose the $250 Application Fee.

7. can i extend my visa?

No. The J-1 visa may not be extended. You have the right to work for a period of up to 4 months plus 30 days of tourist status.

8. can i change my status?

Ameritrex will provide no student with help to change his status and by signing the Terms and Conditions students are required to return to their country after their visa expired.

9. what happens if i have problems at work?

If you cannot adapt to your work place in US you must talk with your supervisor. If your supervisor does not cooperate or cannot help you then you must contact Intrax in California (if you are a student) or Ameritrex in Atlanta (if you are an H2B participant) they will try to mediate between you and the employer. If all else fails then you will be allowed and helped to change your employer (however you must notify Ameritrex and Intrax). If you found another job, your new employer must complete a Independent Placement Agreement and the student must fax it to Intrax or Ameritrex (fax: 415-674-5251). Ameritrex will notify the employer that he is OK to hire you.

10. i've been in the US last year but i'd like to go again

You are welcome to apply again. In this case we prioritize independent applicants that manage to take their friends with them.

11. can i get medical insurance with another company?

No. The medical insurance offered by Intrax is compulsory for all applicants, but if you want you can get a supplementary insurance.

12. how much do i have to pay at first?

Only the tax for the interview with the agency. It costs 360.000 lei. You may pay only at BCR. Pay for this tax only when you turn in the application.

13. what do i do if i still have the I-94 form in my passport?

Please print and read this document and you will find out.

14. what are the photo requirements for the US Embassy?

You can get the needed info in this document

15. what does it mean when i get denied at the embassy?

If you are denied your visa at the US Embassy it means that you get a stamp in your passport with a written code on it that may be something like 214(B). Here's what it means:

16. we are a married couple can we apply together?
